At the end of the course, you should have a sound understanding of the economic principles involved in auctions, negotiations and contracts. You will be able to evaluate the relevance of some statements put forward in current public debates about the adequacy, success and efficiency of, e.g., auctions, trade negotiations, and public/private contracts.
What has economic theory, and in particular game theory, to say about UMTS
auctions, international trade negotiations, CEO contracts, and the Japanese
system of subcontracting?
The course discusses both the theoretical framework used to address the above
question and its application to real world situations. Moreover, we will also
look at experimental evidence.
Lectures about the theory will be given by Bauke Visser. Students are expected
to present and discuss articles that can be found in the reader.
