Many markets of economic interest are dominated by a few large firms. These firms choose prices, brands, product technologies and make investments in R&D, choices that have far reaching effect on the economy and more generally on the way we live. This course presents a theoretical approach - based on strategic decision-making - for understanding the functioning of firms in such markets. We also use this approach to clarify the role of the government in regulating economic activity.
Students taking this course are required to be familiar with the techniques of single agent optimization theory.
